Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Hi everyone. Sorry I’m checking in so late. Busy day. I have several close friends that are in the path of the ice storm and have been in contact with them. I worry, esp. for my friends in Virginia and of course our Debbie here. I pray everyone there and here is okay. I’m not going to stay on long because my neck and arm is hurting from so many phone calls and emails. We are okay here weather wise. So cold it seems penguins have taken over. But less wind than yesterday and no precipitation, thank heavens. Debbie I’m… Read more »

Hi Lin we may get cold and have to bundle up but we have shelter and we will be ok. No need to worry. Prayers are always welcome. Take care of that neck and arm, use a rice sock. Love and rest well.

Good night Julie, have a good evening. You have a delicious breakfast, get your shopping done, including anything you need more than walking down to your Walgreens/Dollar store area. Love and stay safe. I’ll try to post something short before you leave.

Hello everyone. Hope you all get through the next couple of days, healthy and without any major issues with the storms coming through. Especially those that will be getting the ice. We have a lot of snow coming, thankfully we are far enough inland that our’s will be fluffy, not snowball making snow. I haven’t read all through the last couple of days so lots to read. So good to read that Julie’s dad is doing better and with all the positive vibes from here should continue to do so. Saty smart and safe everyone.

Hi Gem, you stay safe too😘 Thanks about my Dad💖Light snow is the best you can sweep it or use a leaf blower to blow it away

Hi Julie. Enjoy your time out with Judy. We’ll have a lot of snow, but nothing that should have us lose power. Unless there’s an accident. Everyone is asked to stay home once it starts, as it is a long storm.

Hello Debbie. No just getting 18″-24″ over 24+ hours. With the temps mostly being in single digits and always well below freezing it isn’t too bad. Still a lot of snow to move. I’m sure our drive will be plowed a few times. Not a great drive as it cuts through 2 properties and there is nowhere to push it to on the way up. Then a curve. Lots of trees, but much easier then when it is the heavy wet stuff. I’m doing okay, just an old issue that was at bay sort of. Now trying to find a… Read more »

That sounds like a lot of snow, and a lot of plowing. Do you own your own equipment or hire a service. I’m trying to picture your drive going through 2 properties. Sounds like you may live in a rural area. Well, I’m glad whatever is going on is just aggravating. The shoes I have were hard to find. I did a lot of calling around and found a store specializing in walk/run shoes but also the type of shoes I need. They are very wide and rather stout, I think New Balance, $200! I doubt if Sketchers makes anything… Read more »

Oh the battery pack comment was really a joke. Not the situation you could be in though is a joke. You’d bike away and be hooked up to something that would generate electricity to power something. I’ve seen silly pics/cartoons of such. Can’t think of which comic. Maybe I can find one. Yes I see below your pic of shoes. Skechers does not have anything like that. Hard enough to find wide Skechers. $200-yikes. We do have a snow blower, but it isn’t powerful enough to do the driveway. More for cleanup after the plow. Our drive is just about… Read more »

Good night Gem and I wish no bad weather for you too. Seems like your generator has the important things covered. I’m going to look at the EcoFlow batteries. Might fit my needs. No fumes to hurt Casey. Don’t have to go outside to hook up a generator.

Been talking to Nancy for about 1.5 hours. She is worried about loosing power too, but Michael has a generator waiting for her. She can at least have a space heater to make do. Jo has gone out to give the wild birds food. I said fill them good you probably can’t get out tomorrow.

I imagine she feels secure. They have a big SUV. A four wheeler. Tractor. I think she is mostly afraid of having no tv! 🤣.
