Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA
Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.
There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. My DH just called me from his work. He had hit a young wild hog with his car this morning on way to work. A sounder /gang of them was running across the road, the others were ok. It was still a smaller one. Car damaged, he pushed dead animal to the side of road, he went to the police station, oh well….insurance will pay … he was shocked. Nothing else happened to him.

We have too many of those. They are a pest… but still sad, that it happened.
We have them too Gabi there are a few up north, but most are in the southern states. They are pests here too,cause a lot of crop damage. Hunts are held,plus you can build a big trap to catch them. They multiply very fast-start breeding when they are young.
Here, they carry the very contagious african swine fever . Dangerous for farmes who have pigs.
We have Javalina around here they’re like a wild boar too

Car damage isnt so very bad. It wasnt a real big animal, still young. Poor thing.
Good morning Gabi Habibi. Not such a good morning for your husband. I must have been unnerving to hit the hog. Not pleasant at all. I hope the damage wasn’t to. Ad. Why did he need to go to the police station, is that a requirement? Does the government do anything to reduce the population of these animals. Here we have deer that cause a lot of accidents, even deaths. Did you know Linda who lives in Oregon that once chatted here? She had a family member’s ex-husband who hit a deer and died. Damage on car is not so bad. He had to go to the police, to report it. They wrote a note for his insurance, that it was an animal-vehicle crash. Roadkill. Police tells a ranger, to remove the dead animal. Its an obligation. These animals can be hunted, not sure what else the government is doing. Thanks for that info. As far as I know we are not required to report roadkill or even remove it. We have avian flu here, you have swine flu. Avian flu hurt our chicken farmers and made eggs very expensive. Last year it killed both eaglets at SWFL nest.
We dont remove roadkill, cops call a ranger , and ranger removes it.
Oh, we have bird flu, too. Didnt know that it killed the eaglets.

I think all through 2025 and maybe some of 2024. The eaglets died Jan. 26 and 28 of 2025

It was traumatic for us watchers. We saw them sick, staggering. After they died CROW (wildlife rehab) came to get the bodies and confirmed avian flu. They did about a 30 minute on camera talk about it at the Pritchett property. Then we were worried about the parents. They were not acting right, but we didn’t see them really sick. Then later that spring or summer a hurricane took down a couple big branches of the nest tree, so we wondered if the eagles would nest there again.
Oh boy, that was a lot happening to this nest.

I dont watch SWFL nest, so i dont know, but i hope that they are well now and have /had eggs and babies this year.
They had one eaglet that fledged.

I forgot to tell you : we have a young couple living not far away, i can see them in their garden. They have a small dachshund, which is grayish and has dark brown dots in different sizes like a Dalmatian dog. Never seen such a pattern on a dachshund.

OMG Gabi glad DH is OK, cars can be fixed. Hope someone gets to eat the hog. That someone grabbed it for food. Here if someone hits a deer you can get a tag from the police and you get to harvest the deer out of deer hunting season, the animal killed doesn’t go to waste. I got a deer to eat this way. Thanks julie. The young hog gets removed by a ranger. Nobody eats it as far as i know. If you take it with you, it is poaching. Not allowed. Your story is interesting, but ALL the blood needs to leak out of the deer, bleed dry, so your friend had to do it fast. Otherwise cant eat it. What did he do with the hooves ?

I went for a walk it feels so good to go for a walk saw a pretty sunset, and the taco truck was there so I stopped to get some taco’s😋I keep saying to my self I will get something different but I always get the same🙄 But its so good its hard to try something different. The guy at the taco truck spent hail storm in the taco truck, he said he was scared to death didn’t know what was happening😳I would of talked to him about what the sirens are for, but he was so busy

I found boneless, frozen thighs that come in a bag. They don’t clump together. You can take out however many you want to cook and put the rest back into the freezer.
