Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

What’s for supper? You gotta be tired! You haven’t had any sleep. Get your belly filled, in your own bed, you will be asleep before you can snuggle in.

Higher cost of living on east coast. Earn east coast salary and spend in central zone.

No I just earned according to the region. It is really more of rural vs urban. Earn an urban salary and spend in rural. I bet rent where I live is half of rent in Lexington.

Yes. I live right in a town of about 3000. Another town about 2000. They almost run into each other

Yes, about 5-7 miles out. Moved here in 1985. There were about 200 houses in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but prairie dogs. Then individual areas were developed, one at a time, and there are many more houses, but still lots of undeveloped land around us in 3 directions.

If we were 7 miles from Lexington we wouldn’t really be considered rural.

I actually live in unincorporated El Paso County, in no city. Whoever heard of that? So we say Colorado Springs to make it easy. 😄

KyDebbie

So the county has no incorporated town? In the whole county? That is different.

El Paso County has Colo Spgs, Fountain, and Manitou Springs. The rest includes us, and small ranches and farms in the eastern part of the county. My area is just called a sub-development, called Sunrise Ridge. Also there are Security and Widefield, 2 small unincorporated towns. It’s like the wild, wild west. Manitou Springs is far away, on the other side of Colorado Springs and starts the climb to Pikes peak.

I did a little research on your county, just for fun, compared a little my county. Your county has a population of about 730k, mine 18K. But your county has about 10 times the size. What really tells is population density, the difference in urban vs rural. You have 343 people per square mile, whereas I have about 71 per square mile. Your population density is roughly 5 times mine!

Here’s my map. Note the Fountain area contains spaces of unpopulated areas and is surrounded by undeveloped land. Giving it it’s rural suburban feel. I’ll talk to you more later about it. 😅😘

Hi Karen that map is interesting. Thanks. Still a lot of houses and people even though I see the dark brown unpopulated area. What is that, forests or what?
