Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I did watch it, Ardyth. On Friday nite. Made me cry too. Was Yellowstone THAT sad? I don’t remember it being quite that bad.

Hello…sitting on my porch…it’s weird that it is 81 but feels kind of cool with the lower humidity and a breeze. We went to the farmer’s market (I got a handheld blueberry pie) and dog class (at a nearby park today)..also went to a sale..I bought a book, some country life magazines, and a couple cute little chairs (not sure what I’m doing with them yet but just like them)…a quiet afternoon, DH has been napping…hopefully the bat situation is resolved for now, it’s been tiring and stressful….sleeping a bit better (last night) but not great.

Sounds like a very nice day Lynn. You bought nice things, and had a good day to porch sit. How did the bat problem get resolved. I’m glad you can get your rest now.

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look what JoAnn just emailed me…….that will be the time I will want to walk!!!

We had a bear come thru yesterday morning around 5:30. We didn’t see it, but Evan did and said it was a big one, it tipped the lid off our compost bin. Evan had a raccoon on his deck, messed with the flowers. No visitors last night or this morning…well, at least that we know of.

I’m sure JoAnn will monitor the bear situation. But it sounds like it might not be safe for you to walk, especially at that time alone. Your safety should be top priority.

They are out early morning mostly, its still dark at that time. Just might have to walk later? Nature doesn’t tell time they can be around anytime. Its just how it is. Its so cool he got to see the bear, it smelled the compost, wanted something to eat. If it was a large one it’s not a two year old who just left its Mother, but often sticks around her. Bears only have cubs every five years.
